LOCATION

1 TOWNSEND STREET, MOUNT TORRENS, SOUTH AUSTRALIA

BRIEF

Using prefabricated construction, the project will retain the key historic form and material character of the old Mount Torrens Hotel while giving it new life as a refined hospitality venue. The exterior will remain largely intact with added landscaping, while the interior is stripped back and reworked with blackened timber, polished concrete, exposed brick, raw stone and steel.
The atmosphere is intended to feel dark, calm and grounded, with low lighting allowing smoke, ember and open flame to shape the experience.

FUNCTION OF SPACE

Hearth is a fire-led restaurant designed as a place to gather, cook, toast and talk around open flame. The space should support dining, food preparation and service in a way that feels cohesive with the historic shell and material palette.
Functionally, it should create an immersive dining environment where fire remains the central focus.
